Jack Penate Lyrics Torn On the Platform
Once more just before Im leaving
Torn on the platform
Once more just before Im leaving
Torn on the platform
Torn on the platform
Once more just before Im leaving
Torn on the platform
Cos Ill miss you and I love you
I know this is over just for mow
Cos I miss you, ohh, how I miss you
Youre not my girl you’re my town
I know this is over just for mow
Cos I miss you, ohh, how I miss you
Youre not my girl you’re my town
A weekend away, leave the city today
Dont want the big smoke to leave me behind
The train leaves at 2, platform 3 Waterloo
50 p to the tramp makes me feel kind
Dont want the big smoke to leave me behind
The train leaves at 2, platform 3 Waterloo
50 p to the tramp makes me feel kind
I get a good seat , with a table my feet
Are up on the one in front everyone stares
Why do they care, like theres feelings in chairs
Trapped for 3 hours until I get there
Are up on the one in front everyone stares
Why do they care, like theres feelings in chairs
Trapped for 3 hours until I get there
Cos my
Eyes, eyes, eyes
Are not
Dry, dry, dry
As I
Realise, ise, ise
That in a few minutes this train will be gone
Sighs, sighs, sighs
City
Fly’s, fly’s, fly’s
Wonder
Why, why, why
Would anyone want to leave where I come from?
Eyes, eyes, eyes
Are not
Dry, dry, dry
As I
Realise, ise, ise
That in a few minutes this train will be gone
Sighs, sighs, sighs
City
Fly’s, fly’s, fly’s
Wonder
Why, why, why
Would anyone want to leave where I come from?
Torn on the platform
Torn on the platform
Torn on the platform
Torn on the platform
Torn on the platform
It’s 1.58 wish that I had been late
And missed the train and given them an excuse
But what is the use, I’ve less slack than a nouse
Do or die stay or go what shall I choose
And missed the train and given them an excuse
But what is the use, I’ve less slack than a nouse
Do or die stay or go what shall I choose
Cos my
Eyes, eyes, eyes
Are not
Dry, dry, dry
As I
Realise, ise, ise
That in a few minutes this train will be gone
Sighs, sighs, sighs
City
Fly’s, fly’s, fly’s

Like in a film the motion starts to slow
As the beeping carriage doors begine to close
Momenterily I’m standing froze
Then I jump between the gap
Land on the platform flat
As the beeping carriage doors begine to close
Momenterily I’m standing froze
Then I jump between the gap
Land on the platform flat
I’m not

Initial ideas
Choosing our music video was harder than we thought. We decided to look at videos from the type of genre that we liked, which included Hip Hop, R&B, Rap and Dance. These videos where included in our textual analysis essays. Toddla T "take it back" was an initiall idea and came under the genre of Dance. We liked the song but didnt think we had the resources to film this song. We decided to go more mainstream and looked at a video by Chris Brown. However, a mainstream artist is well known and to be compared to his video would actually probally prove to be too difficult. Looking at other peoples ideas in class we decided to choose an Indie/Rock genre song by Jack Penate "torn on the platform". We learnt that it had a much bigger target audience and would be easier to create rarther than the genres we listened to or liked.

textual analysis essay 3
Chris Brown “With You”
Chris had an idea of making a love R&B song which involved him recovering from a long lasting relationship with a girl. The lyric’s in the song and the way he performs them has shown oblivious hurt and pain to him. “Hey lil mamma, Ohh, you’re a stunner hot lil nigga, yes you’re a winner and I’m so glad that your mine you are one of a kind” These lyrics show immediate passion towards this girl. His ideas of how he performed the music video also gave a bigger indicator of to how much he loved this girl. He is filmed at many different angles walking down an American road; many tilts are used as well as bird eye view shots. The fact that the tilt shot was used suggests that he is distressed and the effect of using a Bird’s eye view shot also shows that he is down because a zoom is then used and a sympathetic feeling is used as the camera moves from a high to a low. It is also emphasized when a couple walks past him on the pavement and is holding hands.
Furthermore, in this video Chris also has some conceptual concepts involved. His ideas came from past experiences in up and down relationships with girlfriends, most recently the outbreak of Chris’s relationship with Pop singer Beyonce. However, Chris also has had some very successful relationships and possibly is a reason to why he could think of such meaningful and loving lyrics to put in this track called ‘With You’. Furthermore, throughout the music video he uses some very clever ideas to get the message across to that this girl means a lot to him. For instance in the video his jumper changes from three different colours which may also represent love. It changes from green meaning bad and gloomy to purple which is a warmer colour to suggest he may be feeling better and then eventually it changes to red; this is a significant colour as the colour represents love and romance. Some lyrics from the track also represent the idea of the music video. “With every kiss and every hug you make me fall in love”, the lyrics have a certain rhyme to them and is almost the sort of words you may use to put in a love poem. This lyric just justifies the meaningful lyrics he uses to emphasis his love for this one character.
Performance is also another key factor as to the point Chris uses to show love. The video includes a lot of dancing and the choreography explains love and the way Chris dances also emphasises this. Chris shows his point by using a lot of eye contact with the camera and also the use of arm movements helps the viewer realise that he means the words that he is saying. Furthermore, the camera use is also very clever to emphasis the performance even more. A lot of Birds eye view shots are used at the start and at the end of the music video to show a couple together from a distance and this also helps represent the lyrics with the meaning of love. The video is filmed as a normal everyday life situation as Chris gets on the bus when a girl realises him sitting by himself; this also uses a sense of heroism as Chris is showing that no matter where you are you could meet someone and this also may give an instant ego boost to the song; as the image is positive to the viewers.
Finally the most important part of the music video is the storyline. The reason being is because, its shows the viewer what Chris is trying to get across to his fans and viewers in general. As I have said Chris’s music video has a concept of losing a girl and then eventually getting her back. His ideas to show the concept of love where combined through Narrative, Concept and Performance. However, without a storyline the song could never have been produced. The storyline starts when Chris is walking along the road and he is obliviously in some distress as this is shown through a jumper change in colour and the lyrics being used shows that he is truly in love. As he walks further he notices a couple walking together which makes matters worst but the lyrics show further and deeper emotion towards his song and his lover. As the song continues he gets on a bus as to where the tone of music changes. He finally gets off and then sits on a bench to where his girlfriend comes and sits with him. By the end of the song it becomes obiouvous to the viewers that he is with her by the end of the song as the bird eye view shot is used and shows a romantic ending of Chris with his girlfriend.

The kooks ‘she moves in her own way’
The Kooks are an English indie rock band formed in Brighton, East Sussex, in 2001. Formed by Luke Pritchard (vocals/guitar), Hugh Harris (lead guitar), Paul Garred (drums), and Max Rafferty (bass guitar). After some success the kooks signed to Virgin Records just three months after forming and to this day are a popular indie rock band with their mainstream songs of Naive and She moves in her way; these two songs are most recognizable to their fans and also to the general public. The Kooks, had been influenced by David Bowie, Queen and Bear Cavalry to create their entertaining music. Furthermore, there most successful album created has by far been Inside In / Inside Out; which featured ‘Naive’ and ‘She moves in her own way’. The band managed to reach 3rd in the American best album charts of the month and managed to stay 5th in the charts in the U.K for 2 months. The song I’m going to talk about is ‘She moves in her own way’, this song was very successful and is explained how the song was created through the music video, when the band went on tour too Mexico.
The kooks made the song in 2006, and came up with the song in Mexico when they were on tour. Furthermore, it was created with a reason behind it The Kooks designed their song through the different cultures that they had experienced from going to different countries and as a young indie band noticed women are different in other countries and therefore quite amusingly, came up the name she moves in her own way. The band use a range of techniques in their music video to get the message of culture of different women towards their fans and viewers in the public and helps to notice that people can be defined different because of where they are from.
The band uses a range of techniques to show their purpose of how different countries have different cultures. Firstly camera and editing shots. These camera shots however, dont become visible until further on in the video. The first shot used is an establishing shot of an ally way where a number of different girls are there at this point cuts are used quickly and are in sync to the beat of the drum. Cuts are used in sync with the drum beat throughout the song and allows the viewers to see different parts of the band on their tour but also show many different images of the culture in Mexico. The cameras uses mainly close ups and establishing shots with a tilt throughout the video. These two camera techniques are good to use when cutting quickly. A use of temporal ellipsis is also obvious through how time has passed through each day and again backs up their point of seeing how culture is in the day and evening. Many camera shots are used on the tour bus, to show that the band are on tour. Furthermore, when vocals are not being said close ups are used on the drummer and the guitarist and this again emphases that they are a band on tour due to the way that they act and this also states that these people are a star image of the band. These techniques are always however, backed up by lyrics, ‘she moves in her own way’ is said mainly on the tour bus or when a piece of scenery is placed on a scene; this emphases culture again due to different scenery and is linked with different scenery on different women in different countries.
A sense of notion also becomes applicable to viewers this is because of the way the band look at different bits of scenery and a lot of eye line match is used to do this. These notions of looks however, have no sexual preference as such but would have been chosen so the viewers have a idea of who is singing in the song and also to give some mystery of who they may be looking at.
Mise en scene also has a preference as to where the band is, and also helps back up the cultural aspects of the song. The band are dressed in jeans and have an indie/ rock band look which suits there genre and creates a good image towards this song “she moves in her own way”.

Toddla T ‘Take It Back’
The music video I am analysing is a video made by an artist called Toddla T the track is called “take it back”. Toddla T was born in 1985 in Sheffield and started out DJing at the young age of 14 and since has produced two top albums; “Skanky Skanky” and “Watch me Dance”. The genre of Toddla T’s music is mainly Hip Hop, Dance and House Grime. The track “take it back” is a dance/hip hop mix. The video shows some broad characteristics towards the genre of the music. “Take It Back” is filmed in an estate in London. The video involves all young characters wearing hoodies, caps and tracksuits; this type of costume is a big give away to the viewer that, the genre of the music is hip/hop and the mix has a dance vibe to it.
The lyrics in the video have a positive relationship towards the visuals and also helps back up the genre of the music. The Video is based in an estate and due to the loud music playing from the estate house it brings more people and creates a party scene which is ironic due to the genre of the music. Furthermore, this is also shown between the relationship of the music and the visuals. Throughout the whole track, only one lyric is used to change the pace of the music to the way the visuals move around the room. The lyric “Take It Back” creates a slow motion scene between the characters and in a way creates a narrative throughout. However, once again the scenes of people dancing again supports the genre characteristics of dance and Hip Hop. In my opinion the music video is mainly performance based due to the amount of dancing and creativity being used throughout the track. Furthermore, I believe that the track also has a very small aspect of concept, because it has a DJ/Club scene and I think they are trying to create that concept towards their viewer.
Due to the small clips of the main characters of the video, I think that the produces are trying to sell the track to the youth and the young 20’s generation. The image of the music artists also creates an image of who they are trying to sell the track to. However, compared to other videos made by the artist this video, is slightly different. Toddla T seems to create un realistic images in his other music videos and he also like to use animation especially when creating a dance mix such as “Watch me dance” and “Fill up mi portion”, however, his choice of genre and the way he shows his music does still help support his genre especially in dance.
Throughout, Toddla T creates only one moment of notion looking in his video. Only one type of sexual references is used in the video and this is used through costume of some of the women in the video this is used because of the dancing involved in the video and in modern times, is seen as appropriate to the video and music. Furthermore, a young boy is used to guard the door in the flat estate and is very stereotypical of the genre as he image creates crime and hoodies for example. The one notion of looking is used when the young boy looks through the peep hole in the door to a man asking them to turn the music down. This stereotype defines young people in the way they act and represent themselves into young and having a good time and is another way the producers have used the music video as a selling point and defines the age range. This music video would also relate to a number of other music videos in this century. Toddla T’s video would relate to a number of David Guetta’s videos and a band named Chase and Status. These videos all have the same age range and are used in the same way in which they are performed.
Overall, there are some key points to sum up the whole music video. The relationship between the visuals and the lyrics was a main point because it emphasised the vibe towards young people and did back up the characteristics of the genre and the same concept goes with the relationship between the music and the visuals. The close ups which were used rarely and quickly but also emphasised the genre of the track. Furthermore, the representation of the video was the main selling point into how the image came across to young people. Furthermore, the video also had a different scene to how Toddla T usually creates his videos and this may have also created a positive effect on his track. Toddla T sold over 1 million tracks from the album watch me dance which included the track “Take It Back”.
